How to Import Your Bitcoin Wallet
If you are new to Enkrypt, you can import your entire crypto wallet into Enkrypt using your secret recovery phrase. See our guide for restoring your wallet in Enkrypt, or check out our blog for specific import guides for popular wallets like Phantom, Metamask, Talisman, and more.
You can also import a Bitcoin account into your existing Enkrypt wallet using your private key:
Step 1. Open Enkrypt and change your network to 'Bitcoin' by selecting the network in the left-hand network list.
Step 2. Click the Account dropdown at the top then click 'Import account from another walllet'.
Step 3. Select the 'Private key' option.
- Enkrypt supports importing a BTC wallet via recovery phrase but you will need to reset then recover your wallet using the recovery phrase. See this guide for restoring a wallet in Enkrypt.
Step 4. Paste your private key in the text field then click 'Import account'.
Step 5. Enter an account nickname then enter your wallet's password and click 'Import account'.
Step 6. Your Bitcoin wallet will be imported alongside your Enkrypt wallet. Once it is finished, you can exit out of the pop up.
Step 7. You should now see your Bitcoin wallet on your Enkrypt wallet.
How to Send BTC to Yourself
Step 1. Open your Enkrypt wallet and change your network to 'Bitcoin' by selecting it in the network list on the left-hand side.
Step 2. Click the QR button at the top right of the Enkrypt wallet.
Step 3. You can now send BTC to your wallet by copying the address or scanning the QR code.
Bitcoin Balances and Ordinals
When viewing your BTC balance in the wallet, please note that balances on Bitcoin addresses work differently from Ethereum and EVM-compatible chain balances. If you own Ordinals (aka Bitcoin NFTs), your Bitcoin account balance includes these Ordinals and may affect your outgoing BTC transactions.
Due to their design, Ordinals are tied to Bitcoin transactions and are batched together with a certain amount of BTC. If done correctly, Ordinals are only batched with a micro-transaction, but occasionally an Ordinal can get 'tied' to a larger amount of BTC.
If a previous incoming BTC transaction to your wallet contained an Ordinal, you may notice that you are not able to send out your full BTC balance. This is because MEW and Enkrypt wallets have a safeguard to prevent you from sending out your Ordinal accidentally. If it was tied to a bigger transaction originally, this means that amount of BTC is also being held back by the Ordinal.
If you believe this is happening to you, first double check whether your BTC account owns Ordinals. You can select the 'NFTs' tab in your Enkrypt wallet under your Bitcoin account to see if your wallet holds any Ordinals. Please write to us at support@myetherwallet.com with your Bitcoin address and details of any issues you are having with sending your BTC out, and we'll do our best to find a solution for you.
