Change Networks on MEW Portfolio

Steps for changing networks (Bitcoin, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, and others) on MEW Portfolio

Written by Brittany Acosta

MyEtherWallet was launched in 2015 as a platform for interacting with the Ethereum blockchain, but in the decade since then it has come to support many other networks including Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Polygon, BNB Smart Chain, and Bitcoin (on supported wallets).

Don't have a wallet? Don't LOVE your wallet? Creating a new wallet with MEW is easy.

If you’re trying to use a different blockchain on MEW, you’ll need to first access your wallet and then click the ‘Change’ button found in the ‘Network’ box.

To Change Networks:

  1. Access your wallet by choosing the desired method.

    1. For more information about accessing your wallet on MEW Portfolio, check out the following article: ‘How to Access your Wallet on MEW Portfolio

  2. When logged in, you’ll see a a dropdown button in the upper right-hand corner. Go ahead and click on the dropdown to open the menu then select the network name at the top.

    1. In addition to switching networks, this dropdown also lets you manage your connected addresses. Switching to a different address will deactivate the current one and set it to watch-only. You'll need to reconnect to use it again, but all your connected addresses are saved for easy access.

  3. Choose the network you would like to interact with from this list. Your address will not change, but your balances will change to reflect the selected network.

    1. Note that if you initially connected to an Ethereum network, you will not see the Bitcoin network in the available list, and if you initially connected to the Bitcoin network, you won't see EVM networks in the list. If you want to connect to a Bitcoin address after connecting to Ethereum and vice versa, you'll have to disconnect your wallet and reconnect from the https://app.myetherwallet.com/ page.

Please note: If you’re accessing using a Hardware wallet, MetaMask, or other third-party connection methods, you may not be able to change networks. This is because the network is determined before access, and it cannot be changed in the MEW Portfolio interface.
