How to Trade Perpetual Futures on MEW Portfolio

Trading perpetual futures and managing positions in MEW Portfolio

Written by Marcus

Perpetual futures, powered by Ondo Perps, are now available to trade in MEW, in the same dashboard where you swap, trade, and manage your crypto and tokenized stocks. (Subject to certain geographic restrictions, not available to US residents at this time.)

Don't have a wallet? Don't LOVE your wallet? Creating a new wallet with MEW is easy.

Connecting Your Wallet

  1. First, head to www.myetherwallet.com then click 'Connect wallet'.

  2. Select your wallet access method.

  3. After connecting your wallet, select 'Perpetuals' on the navigation bar.

  4. You may need to click 'Connect wallet' again to connect your wallet to Perps Trading. This is because perpetual futures is a separate application within the MEW Portfolio dashboard.

  5. Once your wallet is connected, click 'Sign in' to sign a message that will allow your wallet to interact with the application.

  6. Your wallet should now be connected!

Depositing into Perps

Before trading perps, you'll need to deposit dedicated funds into the perpetuals application. The balance does NOT automatically reflect your connected wallet balance. At this time, only USDC on Ethereum can be added as collateral to perps in MEW.

  1. After selecting 'Perpetuals' in the navigation bar on top, click the 'Deposit' button on the left side of the page.

  2. You can choose to deposit directly from your connected wallet or select 'Use a deposit address instead' to deposit from a different wallet.

  3. Enter the amount you want to deposit then click 'Deposit'. Your deposit may take a few minutes to deposit depending on network congestion.

  4. Once your transaction has been confirmed you will see your Perpetuals Account Balance increase.

Opening a Position

  1. After selecting 'Perpetuals' on the navigation bar, scroll down to view the available Perpetual Futures markets. You can also use the search bar to find a specific perps market.

  2. Once you find the Stock or ETF you want to trade, click 'Long' or 'Short'. 'Long' means you are expecting the price of the asset to go up, and 'short' means you expect the price of the asset to go down.

  3. Here you can view more details about the stock or ETF and the trading form on the right hand side.

  4. On the trade form you can select if you want to do a market or limit order and set your leverage amount.

  5. Enter the amount you want to trade then click 'Long'. If you are opening a short position the button will say 'Short'.

  6. Review your position then click 'Confirm'.

  7. Scrolling down from the chart you should see your open positions and your order fills. You can manage your position from here or the main Perpetuals page.

Changing a Position's Leverage

  1. Go to the Perpetuals page by selecting it in the navigation bar and scroll down to see your open positions.

  2. Click the 'Manage' button on the right side of the open position.

  3. Then click 'Change Leverage'. (You can also add more funds to the existing position by clicking 'Add to position'.)

  4. Select the leverage you want to have for your position then click 'Submit'.

  5. You should now see the leverage amount has changed on your open position.

Closing a Position

  1. Go to the Perpetuals page by selecting it in the navigation bar and scroll down to see your open positions.

  2. Click the 'Manage' button on the right side of the open position.

  3. Then click 'Close Position'.

  4. Enter the amount you want to remove from your position then click 'Close'. Selecting 100% will completely close your position.

  5. Review your market order then click 'Confirm Close'.

  6. You should see that you have no more open positions and your orders have been filled.

Withdrawing from Perps

  1. Head to the Perpetuals page by clicking 'Perpetuals' in the navigation bar.

  2. On the Perpetuals page, click 'Withdraw' on the Perpetuals Account form.

  3. Enter the amount you want to withdraw then click 'Authorize withdrawals' and sign the message.

  4. Now your withdrawals should be enabled. Click 'Withdraw' to submit your withdraw request. If you are withdrawing your max amount of USDC, keep in mind that there's a withdrawal fee.

  5. You should see your withdrawal pending in the 'Deposits & Withdrawals' tab. The withdrawal should show as 'Completed' within a few minutes depending on network congestion.
