If you’ve recently changed phones and transferred your iPhone data to a new device via iCloud backup, your PIN code will continue to open the app, but will no longer work for sending transactions, signing messages, or viewing your recovery phrase.
This happens because MEW wallet stores your keys locally on your device, encrypted for your security and protection. This approach to security means that your keys will not be transferred automatically to the new phone.
To regain full use of the wallet, please reset and restore from backup using your recovery phrase:
Step 1: On the Wallet tab, scroll down to Settings, then Advanced settings.
Step 2: Select Reset wallet and read the warning. Make sure you have your recovery phrase handy.
Step 3: After your wallet is reset, you'll be taken back to the Wallet tab ready to be set up as a new wallet or for importing an existing wallet. Select 'Import existing wallet', then Restore with recovery phrase.
Step 4: Enter your 24-word recovery phrase. Make sure every word is spelled correctly and entered in the correct order. If you have questions about the recovery phrase or issues with the app accepting your phrase, please see our troubleshooting guide.
Step 5: Set your PIN (you can set a new PIN or use the same PIN as before, as you prefer). Enable biometric authentication (FaceID or Touch ID) if desired, and you're done.
