Enkrypt: Connecting to networks and DApps

A complete guide for connecting to different networks, as well as DApps, using the Enkrypt web browser extension wallet.

Enkrypt, MEW’s official multichain browser extension wallet, provides users with easy access to the world of web3 on the Polkadot and Ethereum ecosystems directly from their browser toolbar.

Networks on Enkrypt

Enkrypt offers an array of networks for our users to interact with from the Ethereum network, as well as the Polkadot ecosystem. Switching between them is effortless and easily accessible after adding the network to your dashboard (see next section).

You can also add a custom EVM network using the network's RPC information.

Adding supported networks for quick access

For networks that you find yourself using often, Enkrypt allows you to add that network to your dashboard (side left menu). Doing this makes it easier to locate every time.

To add a network to your Dashboard:

  1. Unlock your Enkrypt wallet by entering in your password.

  2. Click on ‘Manage networks’ found at the far bottom left, under the list of networks.

  3. Enter the network that you want to add.

    1. You may also find the network under the ‘Popular’ or ‘All networks’ so make sure to scroll down to find out.

    2. To add test net networks, make sure to turn it on by clicking on the icon to the right of the search bar, You’ll then click to toggle on to ‘Show test nets’.

  4. When you find the network, click to toggle it on (see image).

    1. Feel free to add as many as you need.

  5. Click on the ‘X’ on the top right hand corner when you’re done adding network(s).

Perfect! The network(s) you picked should now display on your dashboard side menu. Once you’ve added all the networks you need, you can go straight to a specific network easily by clicking on it on your Dashboard or by using the search option.

Please note: Account addresses for all EVM (Ethereum-based) networks will be the same, but on the substrate (Polkadot) networks, account addresses on different chains will look different. This difference is simply how Ethereum-based and Polkadot networks work. ALL addresses in Enkrypt are derived from the same recovery phrase you received when you created the wallet.

Adding a custom EVM network via RPC

You can add any EVM network to Enkrypt to hold assets based on that network, as well as interact with DApps and web3 sites.

Note: Custom networks only support EVM chains, however, you can also use Enkrypt with any substrate chain (Polkadot parachain) to send transactions and sign approvals. See our Enkrypt blog post for more details.

1. Click on Manage networks on the bottom left.

2. On the pop-up window, click the Settings button in the upper right.

3. Select Custom network.

4. Add your network's RPC information and click Add network. In this example we are adding Avalanche (AVAX).

If you don't have this info for your network, you can find it by searching '[network name] RPC info' on Google or by contacting the chain's team directly.

5. The network should now appear in your network list on the dashboard. You can reorder the networks in this list manually if you want the new network to be on top.

NFTs

Please keep in mind that NFTs are currently only supported on Ethereum and Polygon. To view NFTs on a different blockchain, you, may need to connect to a separate web DApp that supports that blockchain.

NFTs are accessible on the Enkrypt extension wallet, but they will still need to be sent and managed on the appropriate NFT marketplace like Rarible or Open Sea, for example. Sending and managing NFTs directly in Enkrypt on multiple networks is a feature coming soon!

To interact with your NFTs,

  1. Enter your Enkrypt password to unlock your wallet.

  2. Select the network that you want to connect to on the left hand side menu.

    1. For help finding networks, please see the networks section of this article.

  3. Click on NFTs (diamond icon)

    1. If you don't see the NFT icon, that means that there isn't NFT support on that network.

  4. Here you’ll be able to view your NFTs. In this section, users can

    1. Add the NFT to favorites.

    2. Hide your NFTs so they won't be seen on the main screen.

      1. Hidden NFTs can be found in the ‘Hidden’ section at the bottom of the page. Scroll down the page and click ‘Hidden’. Then hover over the NFT that you want to un-hide and click on the 3 horizontal dots. Click ‘Show’.

  5. The NFTs shown in this section will show all of the NFTs associated with this address within the network that you’re using. If you’re missing a NFT, make sure that you’re on the correct network that the NFT belongs to.

    1. While you can't send NFTs directly from Enkrypt yet, you can click on the NFT to be taken to the marketplace, connect your Enkrypt wallet to the marketplace DApp, and manage your NFT from there.

Interacting with DApps

Interacting with DApps on Enkrypt is seamless, allowing users the opportunity to connect their wallet to Ethereum-based and Polkadot-based DApps like decentralized exchanges and NFT marketplaces, directly from the Enkrypt wallet extension.

To interact with the DApps on Enkrypt:

  1. Select the network that you want to use (Polygon used in the example below).

  2. Select a DApp from the DApps menu or navigate to any desired web DApp on your browser. Clicking on a DApp will take you to its Web3 site where you can connect your Enkrypt wallet anywhere you see Enkrypt, Polkadotjs or Metamask.

Some things to keep in mind:

  1. The extension should connect automatically to the DApp you select.

  2. If you need to change networks, you only need to do it in Enkrypt and not in the DApp interface.

  3. If Enkrypt doesn't connect automatically, you would need to find the ‘Connect wallet’ option within the DApp and choose Enkrypt, MetaMask, or Polkadotjs.

  4. You can choose any account you added on that network to interact with DApps.

  5. When completing transactions in the DApp, you’ll need to confirm them in the Enkrypt interface.

  6. If you have multiple web3 extension wallets installed, these may conflict with Enkrypt when connecting to DApps, leading to unstable performance. For best results, disable other web3 extension wallets to use Enkrypt with DApps. If disabling doesn't help, uninstall other extensions. You may need to disable/enable Enkrypt extension as well before proceeding.

  7. You can also 'pause' Enkrypt temporarily to use other web3 Ethereum or Polkadot wallets. To do so, go to Settings -> General and select 'Turn off Ethereum for 1 hour' or 'Turn off Polkadot js injection'.
