Welcome to Enkrypt, MEW’s official multichain browser extension wallet that provides users with easy access to the world of web3 on the Polkadot and Ethereum ecosystems directly from their browser toolbar.
This article is a guide for creating and/or importing an existing wallet into Enkrypt, as well as buying crypto. If you would like more of an overview of Enkrypt, feel free to check out the User Guide linked below:
Create a new wallet on Enkrypt:
First, download Enkrypt by heading to your web browser's extension store.
To avoid downloading a fake client, double-check the provider and the correct website link.
Allow the time for Enkrypt to install and when it’s done, click on the Enkrypt icon in your toolbar.
Make sure to pin it to your toolbar by clicking the extension icon then on clicking on the pin directly to the right of the Enkrypt extension. Doing this makes it easier to access in the future.
When it opens, click on ‘Create a new wallet’.
Create a password for future log in. Make sure you write down or save your password somewhere safe! The longer the password the more secure.
Click ‘Next’ when you’re done then enter the password again.
Please keep in mind that there isn’t a way to restore passwords so it’s important to remember it.
You’ll then be given your 12 word recovery phrase for your wallet. Make sure to write it down on a piece of paper.
Please refrain from saving your Recovery phrase electronically in any way (email, text, notes in computer, etc)
Please keep in mind that passwords are for daily access logins and cannot be used as import methods. In the event that the app is reinstalled or the Enkrypt wallet is reset, the recovery phrase will be required to restore access. Passwords won’t work.
Click ‘Next’ when you’re done.
Complete the test to double-check that the Recovery phrase has been written down correctly. Click ‘Next’ when you’re done.
Perfect! Your wallet is ready! Click ‘Finish’ to start using your Enkrypt wallet!
To unlock your wallet, just enter your password. If you forgot the password, click 'I forgot my password', proceed to reset your wallet, and then restore with your recovery phrase following the directions in the next section 'Import an existing wallet'.
Warning: Do not reset your wallet if you don't have your recovery phrase. You can also view your recovery phrase in your Enkrypt settings
Restore an existing wallet
Users who already have a wallet with a Recovery phrase (also known as seed phrase, secret phrase and mnemonic phrase), can import and restore their wallet directly into Enkrypt.
To restore your wallet:
Assuming that the Enkrypt extension has already been downloaded, go ahead and click on ‘Restore existing wallet’.
For help downloading the extension, refer to the ‘Create a new wallet’ section of this article above.
Click on ‘Use Recovery phrase’ to begin importing your wallet.
For users who have a Private key, Keystore file, or Hardware wallet will need to create a new Enkrypt wallet first, then import their wallet using the ‘Importing an account’ option. For more guidance in doing that, feel free to refer to the following article: Enkrypt: Add and Import accounts, and connect a Hardware wallet.
Type in your recovery phrase inside of the space provided. Make sure to enter the words in order starting at 1, and that they’re separated by a single space.
Be sure to double-check for typos and extra spaces.
For troubleshooting phrase issues, see our ‘What is a Recovery phrase’ article for help.
Click ‘Next’ when you’re done.
Create a password for future log in. Make sure you write down or save your password somewhere safe! The longer the password, the more secure.
Passwords must be at least of Medium strength.
Click ‘Next’ when you’re done then enter the password again.
Please keep in mind that there isn’t a way to restore passwords so it’s important to remember it.
Perfect! Your wallet is ready! Click ‘Finish’ to start using your Enkrypt wallet!
Make sure to pin the extension for future access. You’ll do this by clicking on the extension puzzle piece and finding Enkrypt. You’ll then click on the tac icon to pin it.
Buying crypto on Enkrypt
Enkrypt’s ‘Buy’ function provided by Simplex, our integrated partner, allows users to buy different types of crypto directly on the Enkrypt web browser extension. Some options for purchase include ETH, USDT, USDC, DAI, MATIC, and BNB.
When buying crypto from different networks, make sure to change your network to the appropriate one. Crypto that is not available to buy on Enkrypt will have to be purchased using an exchange or bridge.
To begin buying crypto,
Open the Enkrypt browser extension and enter in your password to unlock it.
When you get to your wallet, click on ‘Buy’.
You’ll then be redirected to our provider page to complete your crypto purchase.
Enter the required information and payment details then click on ‘Buy now’ when you’re done.
Allow some time for the transaction to process then head back to your Enkrypt wallet to see your updated balance. Make sure you’re on the correct network for the crypto your purchased.
Nice! You just bought crypto using your Enkrypt wallet!
