Introduction
Here at MyEtherWallet (MEW), we’re all about fostering a seamless user experience, built on a foundation of security. This is why we’ve partnered with multiple exchanges, such as 0x, Paraswap, 1inch, and Changelly, to bring you competitive price points for your swaps.
MEW allows users to not only swap within the Ethereum blockchain but also swap across multiple chains. In just a few steps, users can swap over 300 different currencies directly across Ethereum and other blockchains, at extremely competitive rates.
Before swapping, keep in mind that blockchain gas fees will be applied so it's important to have enough ETH, or the appropriate currency for networks other than Ethereum, to cover the gas fees. For more information on Gas fees and swaps, go ahead and check out the following article:
>> What is Gas
If you don't see the token you want to swap in your wallet, you may need to add it as a custom token. For more information about adding a custom token, please see the ‘How to add a Custom’ article. If the token is not available in the swap dropdown, our integrated providers may not support it and you would need to send the token out to an exchange first.

If you'd prefer to follow a video of this process, go ahead and refer to the link below:
Swapping ETH & ERC20 Tokens on Ethereum blockchain
Visit our website at www.myetherwallet.com, and access your wallet.
For help accessing your wallet, please see the 'How to Access your wallet on MEW web’ article.
Click on the ‘Swap’ option found on the left side of your MEW dashboard.
Choose the currency you’d like to swap and the amount.
If you don't see the token that you’re looking for, then the token may not be supported by any of our Swap providers. We recommend contacting the token’s support team at that point.
Click the drop-down menu in the ‘TO’ section to select the token that you’re trying to swap to.
After the currency is selected, allow time for MEW to find the best rates, based on which provider is offering a better price point. When it’s done, click on the rate you want. (‘Best rate’ is recommended)
Choose your transaction fee (gas) by clicking the drop-down menu. Higher transaction fees mean faster transaction processing time.
For more information about Gas, please see the ‘What is Gas’ article.
Click ‘Next’ then read over your swap details to make sure that everything looks correct. If it looks good, click ‘Confirm & Send’.
If you’re using a hardware wallet (Ledger, Trezor, etc), a browser extension wallet (Enkrypt or MetaMask), or connecting to web with a mobile wallet (MEW wallet app) make sure to approve the transaction there first.
You’re all set! To double-check the transaction, you can view it in Etherscan and track the progress.
If you have issues with your swap, please reach out to the relevant exchange’s support team and our own, at support@myetherwallet.com.
Swapping between different blockchains
Before swapping between chains on MEW, it's important to keep in mind that you’ll need to have a wallet for every chain that you’re swapping on. For example, if you want to swap Dash for LTC (2 separate chains), you would need to provide your Dash address (refund address just in case something goes wrong) and your LTC address (receiving address if swap is successful) in order to complete the swap.
For Ledger users, there are extra steps needed to be taken for these swaps. Due to Ledger’s security, users would need to request a new address for both the refund and receiving address. A temporary new address will be given for each swap.
For more information specifically on swapping BTC to Ethereum wrapped tokens, see the following guide:
To Swap:
Head to myetherwallet.com and access your wallet.
When you get to your MEW dashboard, go ahead and click on the ‘Swap’ icon located directly under the colorful account card.
Enter in the currency and amount that you’re trying to swap (the example below shows DASH).
Enter or search for the currency that you want to swap to (the example below shows LTC).
Paste or carefully input your refund address. This address is the address that you’re swapping FROM and this field only appears when you’re swapping from a non-Ethereum chain (outside of MEW).
Also needed in the unlikely event that something goes wrong with the swap, then the assets can be refunded.
Ledger users: your refund address for the relevant currency will need to be requested on your Ledger device. This address is not your Ethereum address in MEW, but an address from the other chain wallet that you’re swapping from.
Enter or paste the receiving address for the currency you’re swapping for. Based on the example below, the receiving address will be an LTC address.
Ledger users: your receiving address will need to be requested on your Ledger device if the chain is supported. This address is not your Ethereum address in MEW, but an address from the other chain wallet that you’re swapping to.
If your Ledger doesn't support the currency you’re trying to swap to, you would first need to create a wallet compatible with that currency so that you can receive the swapped funds.
After both addresses have been added, please allow a moment for the swap rates to populate and click on the one marked ‘Best rate’. Click next when you’re done.
You should now be looking at a screen like the one below that provides the next steps. In order to complete the swap, users need to send their tokens to the address provided by MEW.
Head to your sending (refund) address wallet and send the tokens to the address provided by MEW.
Please keep in mind that this transaction will require gas so please be sure that you have enough crypto to complete the transaction.
Ledger users: this transaction can take place using Ledger with Ledger Live, Ledger's native software suite.
When you’re done, head back to MEW and click on ‘I sent my *currency*’ (Example shows ‘I sent my DASH').
Perfect! You’re all set. Allow time for the transaction to process on both chains before you’ll be able to see them in your wallet. To verify your transaction, feel free to search for your transaction within the related blockchain explorers.
If you experience any issues with your swap, please contact our support team at support@myetherwallet.com. We’ll be happy to assist.
Swapping a different blockchain to ETH or ERC-20

Click on the ‘Swap’ icon located under the colorful account card.
Search or enter the crypto that you’re swapping and the amount that you want to swap.
Search for or type in the ETH or ERC-20 token that you want to swap for. The value will auto-populate after entering the refund address in the next step.
Paste or carefully input your refund address. This address is the address that you’re swapping FROM and this field only appears when you’re swapping from a non-Ethereum chain (outside of MEW).
After entering the refund address, allow some time for the swap providers to populate then select the one that is marked as ‘Best rate’.
Click Next.
You should now be looking at a screen like the one below that provides the next steps. In order to complete the swap, users need to send their coins to the address provided by MEW.
