When MEW released its full-featured mobile wallet for iOS and Android in the beginning of 2020, we collaborated with Samsung to have MEW supported in all Samsung devices with the Samsung Blockchain Keystore (SBK) feature. On generating a new MEW wallet, users had the option of linking it to their Samsung Blockchain Keystore.
Over the years since then, MEW mobile has released numerous updates and new features like crypto staking, interaction with DeFi applications, various options for crypto purchases, and support for multiple networks including Polygon, BNB Smart Chain, Base, Optimism, and Arbitrum. Unfortunately, Samsung has not continued to maintain the SBK feature, with the last update having been released on December 29, 2023.
Due to the lack of updates, at this point SBK is not compatible with many of the newer features and networks in MEW, which is why users may encounter errors and see alerts like: This feature is not available for Samsung Blockchain Keystore devices.
Don't worry - your funds are safe and you can continue using your wallet as you have been doing to hold funds, receive and send transactions, and maintain full access to your crypto. However, if you want to take advantage of all current and future MEW Mobile features, follow the guide below to import your SBK wallet directly into MEW Mobile app.
Step 1: First of all, make sure you have a backup of your wallet in the form of your secret recovery phrase given by Samsung Blockchain Keystore.
To view your phrase and check that you have it written down correctly, open Blockchain Wallet on your device, then click on the three dots in the upper right corner to open the menu.
Select 'Settings', then 'Samsung Blockchain Keystore', then 'View recovery phrase'. You will need to enter your Samsung Blockchain Keystore pin to view it. Make sure no one else can see your screen when your phrase will be shown.
Go through all the pages showing your recovery phrase. Check that you have it written down in correct order with all words spelled correctly.
Step 2: Reset your MEW wallet.
Once you have your SBK phrase written down, head back to MEW Mobile app. On the home page, scroll all the way down and select 'Settings and support', then 'Settings', and then 'Reset wallet'.
Clicking on 'Reset Wallet' will show you Samsung Blockchain Keystore settings. This is because currently the wallet is tied to the SBK module. Tap 'Reset Blockchain Keystore'.
Step 3: Import your recovery phrase from Samsung Blockchain Keystore into MEW Mobile app.
After resetting the wallet, when you open your MEW Mobile app, you will see a fresh wallet creation screen. Click 'Import existing wallet', then 'Restore with recovery phrase', then 'Use recovery phrase'.
When prompted, enter your Samsung Blockchain Keystore recovery phrase that you wrote down in Step 1 above. After your wallet is imported into MEW, you should see all of your Ethereum assets. Now that you restored the wallet in MEW directly, your keys are stored on a secure keystore on your device, but without utilizing Samsung Blockchain Keystore. This will enable you to have full access to all current and future MEW features without sacrificing any security.
